Free screening of The Interrupters: Nov 5
Join the Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop (featured in the fall 2011 issue of Bittersweet) and the Center for Social Media on Saturday, Nov 5 from 1:00-3:30pm for a free special screening of The Interrupters — a documentary film that tells the powerful story of three individuals who choose to interrupt the cycle of violence they once employed in their own communities.
Following the screening, esteemed members of Free Minds will read a selection of poems relating to the issues in The Interrupters to kick off a DC-focused dialogue about ways to decrease violence in communities. The film is part of the Benevolent Media Festival, held from 4-7 Nov at American University.
ABOUT THE BENEVOLENT MEDIA FESTIVAL
The Benevolent Media Festival is a celebration of storytelling and design for good. This first-of-its-kind, all-volunteer initiative focuses on people, organizations and projects that compel audiences to care about a cause, take action on an issue, or promote a point of view through strategic and inspiring multimedia. “Benevolent Media Creators” are invited to host and organize their own lectures, workshops, performances, networking events or other activities, located at multiple venues across the city. More details can be found here.
